Out and About Wellington's Must Do's
TE PAPA Te Papa is New Zealand's national museum and a must see if you are visiting Wellington. Known internationally as a leader in museum interaction and innovation it is definitely a unique and memorable experience. It is located on Cable Street ten minutes from the Just Hotel on Wellington's stunning waterfront, a great place to take a stroll after the Museum.
Te Papa always has travelling exhibitions so best to ask at Reception for their current attractions schedule. FREE ENTRY. Open every day of the year 9am-6pm and until 9pm on Thursdays. Costs may incur for certain exhibitions.
MUSEUM OF WELLINGTON, CITY TO SEA This popular museum located on Queen's Wharf will take you back a thousand years and lead you to a vibrant present day Wellington. The interactive and exciting exhibitions engage visitors of all ages. FREE ENTRY. Open Monday - Sunday 10am - 5pm. Closed Christmas Day
CABLE CAR AND BOTANICAL GARDENS The Cable Car is located on Lambton Quay and goes up to Kelburn every 10 minutes. It is a relaxing ride with an incredible view of the City at the top. Adult $2, senior citizens and children $1 one way. Runs every 10 minutes, Open 7 days from 7am weekdays, 8.30am Saturday and 9am Sunday until 10pm 7 days a week.
THE WELLINGTON BONTANICAL GARDENS This is a lovely place to spend the afternoon on a sunny day - just a couple of minutes walk from the top of the cable car. Be sure to look out for the award winning Lady Norwood Rose Garden.
MOUNT VICTORIA A short stroll through the city and a quick hike up a hill will bring you to the top of Mount Victoria. This is another location from where you can see stunning views of the city. Alternatively, there is a bus that goes from Courtenay Place to the top of Mount Victoria. Walking: FREE; Bus: $2.50 one way
THE EMBASSY THEATRE The newly restored Embassy Theatre is at the top of Courtenay Place, a short stroll from the Hotel. This is a great place for dinner and a movie. It is also the home theatre of the Lord of the Rings for all of those fans!! Ask Reception for an up-to-date theatre schedule. (Timetables for other theatres are available at Reception)
ORIENTAL BAY This beach was recently remade and is a great place for a stroll or a swim with excellent cafes and restaurants nearby. The beautiful white sand was brought in from Golden Bay in the South Island
WELLINGTON ZOO This is New Zealand's oldest zoo established in 1906. Check out an amazing array of wildlife in a place where education and conservation become fun and magical. Open 9.30am - 5pm 7 days a week. Adults $15, children $7.50, concession prices available.
STAGLANDS WILDLIFE RESERVE Set amongst the beautiful bush of the scenic Akatarawa Valley, Staglands offers you a special look at New Zealand's heritage. Full of walkways where you will have a stunning, hands on view of New Zealand's wildlife and natural surroundings

KARORI SANCTUARY (ZEALANDIA) This sanctuary is a world first conservation attraction where a unique protected natural area is being patiently restored. See some on New Zealand's rarest and most endangered wildlife like the little spotted kiwi, tuatara, saddleback, stitch bird and kaka. Also look out for their famous night tours also where some of New Zealand's most interesting wildlife come out to play
Open hours: Monday - Sunday 10am - 5pm. Closed Christmas Day. Sanctuary tours range from $22-$40 for adults, $11-$20 per child (children up to 16 years no charge)
DOMINION POST FERRY Take a scenic harbour cruise on one of Wellington's Harbour Ferries. It has 15 return sailings daily between Queens Wharf, Somes-Matiu Island and Days Bay and is a relaxing way to discover wellington.
Crossings begin Monday - Friday at 6:25am with the last crossing leaving at 7:05pm. The last crossing to return from Day's Bay leaves at 7:25pm. During the weekend crossings begin at 10am with the last crossing leaving at 5pm. The last crossing to return departs at 5:50pm. Adults $18.50, Children $10, Concessions prices available.
SHOPPING The Lambton Quay area, home to much of Wellington's shopping, is located only 5 minutes away from the Just Hotel. Cuba Mall, located again only 5 minutes away is a famous Wellington street, filled with boutique retailers. Cuba Street is traditionally known as being the home to Wellington's creative side.
WALKWAYS Wellington has numerous walkways all throughout the city. One of the most famous is the Writers Tour which takes you all over the city's hotspots showcasing some of New Zealand's most famous writers work as you go. Ask at Reception for more details on where they all begin.
